According to an agency report, the Acting Inspector-General of police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar has hinted on plans to make officers of the force be more respected by the people with a change of its uniform.

He made this known recently in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, when he paid a working visit to the state.

He said efforts were being made to change the uniforms of police officers to a uniform that would earn the people's respect towards police officers.

You will recall that the police authorities changed its uniform during the Babaginda regime from blue top on black troussers to its present full black uniform.

Just less than five years ago, the police authorities again changed its uniform from the full black to its former, but only for senior officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) upward.

The Nigeria Police Force has come under criticism due to its high level of corruption, especially on some major roads in the country.
