Couple celebs: How we'll spend our Val---Ejike and Ogechi Asiegbu

By JAMES EMMANUEL

As the breeze of valentine continues to ooze with the air of romance, married couples and young lovers are expectedly making last minutes arrangements to make the romantic season a memorable one. Veteran actor and former AGN President, Ejike Asiegbu and his wife of many years, Ogechi are not left out.

To the couple whose marriage has stood the test of time and is a reference point in Nollywood, the upcoming valentine is a special day to them and their children. Revealing why it is a special moment for his family, the former AGN president, in a chat with EE noted, “It is a special day to me and my wife because we even had our wedding on the eve of valentine, which was on the 13th of February. So as you can see, the celebration even starts from the day before valentine. But above all, one does not have to wait till February 14 before showing love. We try to live our life with love everyday which means that we live a valentine life”.

To buttress her husband, the pretty and elegant wife of the ace actor disclosed that she always expects something special. “My husband has not made his plans known to me but I know there must be something on that day...I am very sure. Though the eve's package is no longer a surprise to me, I take the one of valentine as a surprise,” she gushed.

Advising young lovers on how best to mark the period, Ejike frowned on the height of deception among young ones who claim to be in love. In his words: “love goes beyond buying gifts and stuffs like that. Buying of gifts is not bad but buying the gifts with an intention to buy the woman's heart is absolutely wrong. Showing of love should be a genuine thing that comes from the heart. And most importantly, if you love someone enough to spend your valentine with, such person should also be fit to be your wife or husband. One gains nothing by deceiving anybody so I wonder why the pretence and things like that in the name of valentine. I am saying this because valentine to most people who are not married is all about sex and sex...they see it as mere celebration which comes and go; but that is not what love is all about-love goes beyond that”.

The star actor did not end the chat without stating reasons behind his successful marriage that has been admired by many. According to him, there is no perfect human being on the face of the earth. “One has to know that each of us has his or her own shortcomings. So it's important that one accepts the other and be tolerant. In fact the right word for every successful relationship is just tolerance. If you can tolerate and appreciate your partner I believe your love life would go far”.
