Nigeria's 5 Top Controversial Entertainers

Source: Nollywoodgists.com

The Nigerian entertainment industry is a fast growing one indeed. New artistes are born and celebrities are emerging almost on a daily basis. In the same pace as well, controversies are becoming a regular occurrence for most of the entertainers. Only a handful of entertainers in the country can boast of a clean sheet as far as getting involved in scandals is concerned.

For these entertainers their ways are unique and they remain contentious. Their actions, dress sense, songs, movie roles and lifestyles are talking points in town. They are subjects of public debate and they continually arouse love or hate but for the artistes concerned that would only bring more relevance.

Mercy Johnson

She is without doubts one of the best at present in her world of make-believe. Mercy wows many viewers in the way she wonderfully interprets her roles such that many often think they are taken along in her real world. Mercy cries like a baby in most films and this in turn arouses emotions in her teeming fans. When her deft interpretation of roles is not been talked about on location or by the public, her relationship with colleagues will be the talking points. From her dress sense, fashion designers to her financial worth, Mercy has constantly remained a topic of debate in most gossip columns and on the internet. The actress from Kogi State recently hugged the headlines again and left people talking about her for months when she decided to walk down the aisle. If her decision to tie the nuptials on her birthday was a subject of discourse, her choice of man was even more discussed for weeks. It was the topic on the lips of many for several weeks. Mercy chose to marry a Benin Prince who is a divorcee. Though she confesses the controversies and scandals do get to her as well, Mercy has over the years developed a seeming thick skin towards them (controversies and scandals) so much that her family members are beginning to wear the same thick skin also.

Cozy Orjiakor

Very few Nigerian would have noticed Orjiakor in the world of make-believe if not for her daring stunts. She is that Nollywood actress who enjoys flaunting and exposing her voluptuous boobs at will. She had taken up a few roles in the home videos before a director allegedly encouraged her to flaunt what she has. The rest, as they say, is history. Orjiakor has made name for herself in the industry by showing off her boobs and since then she has not looked back. Even when she took to singing not too long ago, many still doubted if she had more than those extraordinary boobs to showcase. Orjiakor has made a fortune out of this act as this light-skinned and soft spoken entertainer has continued to up her game

Terry G

Even after going through a widely-publicised re-branding, any mention of Gabriel Onche Amanyi popularly called Terry G in discussions or on the pages of newspapers is incomplete without the adjective- controversial- before his name.

So much is Terry G's peculiar lifestyle that at some point in his career, precisely in 2010, he was hugging newspaper headlines almost on a weekly basis over one controversy or another. Terry G was alleged to have engaged in theft of intellectual property. He was said to have stolen songs from some of the artistes he worked with as producer. He was also arrested and later released for not showing up for shows already paid for. His names made headlines as a result of controversies that later spilled into scandals. To further curry for himself the label- king of controversies-, Terry G was caught on camera smoking what many tagged cannabis. He was to later title his first major album- 'Free Madness.' Many had complained about his personality and character traits, yet Terry G has continued to be relevant, even more than his contemporaries, perhaps owing to his mastery of his art. Not many expected him to get an endorsement deal or be signed on by any reputable brand, yet he is able to get and perform at several corporate shows and events.

Jim Iyke

Many would contend that Jim Iyke rode to the top of the trade on the back of controversies. He has consistently remained an item of discussion ever since he found his way into Nollywood. He was nicknamed 'Nollywood bad boy,' which aptly fits his personality. He has rolled with the name without any qualms as that helps to up the publicity ante for him. Even now that he seldom features in Nollywood films unlike before, Jim Iyke's life outside Nollywood has remained a topic of controversy because he is either fighting at night clubs or breaking the hearts of some young rich ladies or driving about town in a posh automobile. Jim Iyke will no doubt top the list of entertainers known to be regularly involved in brawls at night clubs and other public places. He is closely followed by Terry G.
