9TH KENNIS MUSIC FIESTA BEGINS TODAY
The 9th Kennis Music Easter fiesta would begin today at Aquatic Hall and Hotels, Water Parks, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event would feature top Nigerian music stars like 2face Idibia, Weird MC, D'Banj, K1, Marvelous Benjy, Azadus, Kenny Saint Brown, Baba Dee, Sound Sultan, Konga, Lord of Ajasa, Essence and DJ Vinnie. Also, to perform are VIP and crew from Ghana, Tee A and Gbenga Adeyinka the first.
According to Kenny Ogungbe, the 9th Kennis Music Easter fiesta, which is proudly supported by THISDAY, Raypower, Africa Independent Television (AIT), Gordon Spark and Celtel, will run through Easter Monday.
In a chat with THISDAY, Ogungbe said Nigerians should expect quality entertainment from the new generation of artistes, adding that the fiesta's organiser, Primetime Entertainment is "excited because the fiesta is happening some few days to the 2007 general elections.”
"It is our responsibility to reduce tension in the polity. We are entertainers and we are music moguls. We are going to use music to reduce tension in the polity by providing live entertainment, not only for those that will come and enjoy the event live, but also for those who can sit back at their homes and watch television. We are determined to make a difference away from political campaigns here and there. However, our programmes are just taking place by sheer coincidence. We are excited about the whole arrangement and people should be looking out for a very good entertainment package," he said.
Ogungbe's partner, Dayo Adeneye (D1) also said "elections will come and go, we will still remain. Life goes on. We just feel that it is a yearly event, it has to go on. In America, elections or no election, life goes on. Even politicians campaign through these entertainment avenues. But in our part of the world, we are not yet sophisticated to know that people that will attend our fiesta are potential voters. I don't think our entertainment package will distract people's attention. But it is our contribution to douse tension," he said.
Adeneye noted that the 9th Kennis Music Easter fiesta "is a three-day event, we are kicking-off today at Aquatic Hall and Hotels, Water Parks, Ikeja, Lagos.
The programme will start at 10p.m. till dawn. On Sunday, we would move to Sheraton Hotel and Towers to launch the new album of Kenny Saint Brown. And on Monday, we will be heading to Kuramo Beach. That is the biggest attraction of the Easter fiesta package."
Celtel Nigeria's Head of Public Relations, Events and Sponsorships, Emeka Oparah, also said his company's sponsorship of Kennis Music Easter Fiesta is in line with the company's focus on music as a veritable platform for promoting happiness, entertainment and relaxation.
"It is the desire of Celtel to connect with its customers where they work, play and live,” he said.
That is why we are involved in the sponsorship of the Kennis Easter Fiesta," he said.
