Gbenga Adeyinka, D’Banj, Julius Agwu at polling units
One would have missed it if not for the unmistakable voice. One voice stood out as the counting of votes at a polling booth in Lekki was in progress. The count of number one, two, three…rent the air amidst comical interjections. Even without seeing the face, one could tell it was notable comedian, Julius Agwu.
The diminutive comedian had voted on the day of the presidential election and went back home, but he was soon back at the polling booth to monitor and protect the votes.
“I believe in the democratic process and I am of the opinion that if we get our voting system right, a lot of things will get better. If elected leaders know they can be voted out if they don't perform, they will give their best,” Julius said as he made for his car.
It was not only Julius Agwu that stood for democracy, Dapo Oyebanji (D'Banj), the music star who came under heavy attack for campaigning for Jonathan and 'misrepresenting' the youths in his 'infamous' interview with President Goodluck Jonathan, also came to the polling booth Julius registered and voted. He was with his bodyguards and appreciated a couple of people who hailed him.
Shortly before them, star actress, Ini Edo, had also voted at the same polling booth. She left for a meeting and was seen hurrying back to witness the counting as well. In Omole area, Gbenga Adeyinka was on the queue waiting for his turn to vote. All entreaties to make him jump the queue fell on deaf ears. “I lead by example, that is what leadership is all about,” he said.
