Ghana To Revoke Licences Of TV Stations Airing Nigerian Films Without Permission – James Gardiner

James Gardiner, the Deputy CEO of the Ghana National Film Authority, has announced that the Ghana government is set to crack down on television stations airing Nigerian films without proper authorisation.

Gardiner divulged this during a conversation with Nigerian producer Uchenna Mbunabo, who had raised concerns about Ghanaian TV stations downloading Nollywood movies from YouTube and broadcasting them for free.

Gardiner acknowledged that such practices are illegal and confirmed that the government is working with the Ministry of Communication, the National Media Commission, and the National Communications Authority to address the issue.

According to him, plans are underway to revoke all existing licenses, requiring stations to reapply under new regulations. He also confirmed that the new framework is expected to be implemented by 2027.

This development is coming against the backdrop of many Nigerian producers bemoaning Ghanaians illegal airing of their movies.
