Ayra Starr Speaks On Poor Electricity In Nigeria, And Its Negative Impact On Her Childhood
Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Aderigbigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has opened up on the problem of electricity plaguing Nigeria.
Speaking at the Global Citizen NOW event in New York, the 'Sability' crooner maintained that many young Nigerians have battled electricity issues at a point in time.
According to Ayra Starr, she had to adapt to the discomfort it caused by finding alternatives and means to do things without a power supply.
She further asserted that proper power supply would have impacted her childhood positively.
The MAVIN signee used the medium to passionately plead with African leaders to prioritize providing basic amenities, in order to guarantee a better life for the youths.
She said: “Every Nigerian child has faced some type of electricity issues. My grandma used to sell tomatoes and pepper and I used to assist her. We had to sell it quickly because we didn’t have electricity to store them.
“The harsh experience made me who I am today. Because I had to find ways to do what I had to do without the comfort of electricity.
Growing up, having electricity would have made a big difference. If I came back from school and I had AC or even a fan in the heat while doing my assignments, that would have made a big difference.”
