Jide Kosoko Calls For Organized Promotional Strategies In Nollywood, Beyond Dancing
Nollywood veteran Jide Kosoko, has weighed in on the rising trend of dancing to promote movies in Nollywood.
The actor, while speaking on the TVC Breakfast Show, made reference to the dancing strategy used by box-office queen, Funke Akindele, admitting that although the class isn't bad; it shouldn't be the standard for promoting movies.
Calling for organized promotional strategies, Kosoko pointed out that Funke Akindele discovered and leveraged on the dancing strategy because of its ability to gain traction and convert to profit, noting how profit making is the aim of every filmmaker.
He, however, compared Nigeria with his journey across several countries, emphasizing that other actors don't dance to promote their movies, however, the environment is key.
"There is nothing bad about that class for her, but I’m telling you it is not the best. There should be a more organised way of promoting our movies.
"Funke thought it was wise to do something that could bring attention, and she did it. And it’s working for her and a lot of us, too. At the end of the day, what you are looking for is returns."
"I’ve travelled a lot, and I know that people elsewhere, even actors, don’t dance about their movies. That is not the standard. But unfortunately, our environment is different."
