It's Hard For Up-and-coming Artistes To Go Mainstream — Joeboy

Nigerian singer Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, popularly known as Joeboy, has bemoaned the increasing challenges plaguing the Nigerian music industry.

The 'Alcohol' crooner in an interview with media personality, Jay On-Air, spoke about the challenges that have plagued fast-rising artistes in the music industry. He stated that it is now a different ball game, compared to the previous requirements.

According to him, any artiste who wants to become successful currently, has to be loud on social media and posses the power of an influencer in order to appeal to the public.

He added that the current requirements is a stark contrast to how the industry was run before.

“I genuinely feel for artists that are trying to go mainstream right now because unlike before, it takes a lot more and it now depends on your personality and all of that. Because right now you have to be on everybody’s faces and all of that.

“Back then, if you have a great music, a great brand behind you and great marketing, the chances of you popping up was really higher. But now, it demands way more than that."

He urged up-and-coming singers to leverage social media platforms, particularly video platforms in order to gain more reach.
