Actor Deyemi Okanlawon Reiterates Simi's Stance On Rape
Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon, is standing in solidarity with singer Simi, over her stance on rape.
The Nigerian Voice recalls that the wife of Adekunle Gold, who recently condemned the act of raping women in response to the allegations made by Tiktoker Mirabel, became a subject of public ridicule as some of her old tweets on X (formerly Twitter) were dug up, and have since caused uproar on the microblogging platform.
Simi, however, issued a clarification statement on X on Sunday, February 22, stating that her tweets were never from a place of perversion, and the deletion of some of those tweets were done by her team due to the sensitivity of it for her family.
She further emphasized her unwavering stance against rape, stressing that she has been doing that before fame.
Weighing in on the issue on his X handle, Deyemi stated that when the clamouring for an end to raping women are made by women, it is important not to bring other situations like "false rape accusers" to the conversation.
According to him, the conversation about other things can take place another time, but the issue of raping women must be put to an end.
He wrote: "When women say "STOP rap*ng women"... Your response cannot be "what abt men/children" neither can it be "what abt false accusers" nor anything else.
Your reply MUST only be YES!!! You can start your own separate conversation abt anything else at another time/place.
#EndRape." Deyemi's tweet has led to several back and forth between him and netizens on the microblogging platform, as his tweet has been a subject of disagreement and controversy.
