Sophia Momodu's Legal Representatives Issues Warning To Davido Over Threat, Harassment Directed At Its Partner
The messy child custody battle between Afrobeats star, Davido, his ex-babaymama, Sophia Momodu, over their daughter, Imade Adeleke, has taken a more legal route, following the singer's crash out on social media.
Recall that The Nigerian Voice reported some days ago that a lawyer on X, Maruf Muhammed, via Twitter, alleged that Davido was in court in Yaba, where he lost his cool during cross-examination and was venting his anger.
A day after, the 30BG boss dropped an update on the outcome of the custody battle, revealing that he never asked for full custody, but joint custody over his daughter Imade. He, however stated that he was resigning to fate, hoping that one day his daughter will grow up to acknowledge his efforts.
Davido also slammed the lawyer representing Sophia, noting how she used his late son against him. Hurling derogatory words at her, he prayed that she doesn't face what he and his wife went through
Reacting to the attacks on their partner, Punuka attorneys, in a recent Instagram post, issued a statement emphasizing their decision to be unshaken while discharging their duty for justice.
According to them, the "inflammatory public statements" largely made by Davido against their partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah has been taken note of.
Issuing a strong warning, the law firm stressed that media commentary cannot shift away the due process of the law, stating that in pursuant to the law, no statement on the case would be made public.
They further stated that all legal steps will be taken to resist any form of interference with justice, and such actions will be met with the full wrath of the law.
The full statement read: "WE STAND RESOLUTE IN THE PURSUIT OF JUSTICE Our attention has been drawn to all manner of inflammatory public statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media directed at our Partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State.
That matter is sub judice. It will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law, and no amount of media commentary will sway that process or our approach to the case. In keeping with the highest professional conduct, no statements on the substance of the case will be issued by us.
However, if legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled. The administration of justice depends upon fearless advocacy. When counsel is forced to weigh personal safety against professional duty, the rule of law itself is weakened.
It will not begin with us. Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors will deploy every lawful measure available to it to resist any attempt to intimidate counsel or undermine judicial proceedings. Those who engage in conduct calculated to interfere with the administration of justice will be met with the full consequences provided by law.
We call upon the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers globally to rise up in one voice to condemn this aberration and gross violation of our profession.
Signed Management and Board of Partners."
