CVs Have Quietly Become Marketing Documents Rather Than True Reflections Of Capability - Mary Njoku Shares Observation
Nollywood actress Mary Njoku, has made an interesting observation about CVs that many possses.
The veteran actress, via her Instagram page, shared how on a daily basis, she sees people without jobs, sees impressive CVs, and also notices how companies struggle to hire good people.
According to her, this pattern has made her confused as to what's going on. Citing her experience, she shared how one reads a CV: it is solid, well-written, and ticks all the boxes, however, a sit-down with the individual leads to disconnection.
Mary Njoku admitted that this revelation goes beyond intelligence or effort, noting how many people are working hard. She stated that the problem is that CVs have now become marketing documents, instead of true reflections of capability.
She further asserted that there is a real disconnection between what looks good and paper, and what shows up in the room.
She wrote: "Every day, I see people without jobs. Every day, I see impressive CVs. And every day I see companies struggling to hire good people.
And I’m genuinely confused. You read a CV, it’s solid, well-written, and ticks all the boxes. Then you sit down with the person… and something doesn’t connect. It feels like something went wrong somewhere in the middle.
This isn’t about intelligence or effort. A lot of people are working hard. But CVs have quietly become marketing documents rather than true reflections of capability. Titles are inflated, responsibilities are aspirational, and polish has replaced depth.
There’s a real disconnect between what looks good on paper and what shows up in the room."
