A Lot Of Us Are Into Music For Money, Not To Make Impact - Spyro Bemoans Moral Decadence, Due To Music Losing Its Intrinsic Value
Popular Nigerian singer, Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, better known as Spyro, has bemoaned the moral decadence in the society today, as a result of music losing its intrinsic value.
The 'who is your guy' crooner, while speaking on the Adesope Live show, stated that in the past, music was characterized by meaningful lyrics from artistes, however, it has been reduced to just vibes.
He stressed that although vibes are important, it has greatly reduced the intrinsic value of music. He noted how music lyrics used to evoke emotions, wondering how we can get back into that era.
He further emphasized that the lack of lyrical content has also contributed to the increase in moral decadence in the society today, adding that many artistes are moving into music just for the money, and not the impact.
He said: “In the past, artists were passing meaningful messages regardless of whatever genre they were doing. But now, music is just vibes. We are just vibing.
In as much as vibes are cool, I feel like music has lost its intrinsic value. Back then, you would get goosebumps listening to music. Vibes are cool. But how can we infuse messages and values into vibes?
“A lot of the decadence that we have in the society today can be traced to the fact that music has lost its value. We are now just singing for money. A lot of us are into the business for money, not to make impact."
