Wande Coal Took Afrobeats To The New Sound - Seyi Sodimu
Veteran Nigerian rapper and singer, Saying Sodimu, has credited popular Nigerian singer Wande Coal for playing a huge role in Afrobeats success.
Speaking in a recent interview with comedian, Teju Babyface, Seyi Sodimu asserted that Wande Coal made Afrobeats appealing to the new generation artistes, including influencing Wizkid, Davido and others to make Afrobeats the new sound, "Wande Coal was one of the pivotal moments where he switched it [Afrobeats] to the new generation where he influenced people like Wizkid, Davido, Sean Tizzle. It was Wande Coal’s class that took Afrobeats to the new sound," he said.
Praising the singer, Sodimu described him as Nigeria's most talented Afrobeats artiste, "I think he is the most-talented Nigerian Afrobeats artist," he said.
Furthermore, Teju Babyface asked, “Do you think Wande Coal is getting the flowers he deserves?”
Sodimu replied, “What do you mean by flowers, are you talking about streams? Because people love Wande Coal when they hear his music. So it’s in context. Any artist you ask, if you meet any of them, even Burna Boy can attest to Wande Coal’s artistry.
“I’m older than Wande Coal and I know he’s actually operating on 30% and he is still kicking *ss. So, imagine if he was operating on 78%. Wande is a genius. He can sing, he also writes. He is amazing.”
