The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has finally shed light on the reason for the arrest of controversial self-acclaimed activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
The Nigerian Voice reported on Friday, that popular human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, via his X handle, announced the arrest of VeryDarkMan by the police at GTB.
Deji Adeyanju further released a preliminary statement on Friday evening, which clarified that VeryDarkMan was in the custody of the EFCC in Abuja.
According to a part of the preliminary statement, Deji Adeyanju revealed that during his interview with VeryDarkMan's friend, Mr. Steven Avuara, "we were able to gather that Mr. Martins Otse, his mother, Mrs. Blessing Otse, and Mr. Avuara visited GTB Garki, Area 3, Abuja, to make inquiries about the incessant deductions from Mrs. Otse's bank account. Following the conclusion of the inquiries, they attempted to exit the building, but were locked in the bank's security door for over five minutes. Shortly thereafter, they were accosted at gun point a few metres outside the bank's premises, beaten and blindfolded by some armed men wearing black uniforms."
Speaking for the first time since it was confirmed that VeryDarkMan was in their custody, the anti-graft agency through its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, made it known that VeryDarkMan would be released once he meets his bail conditions.
Explaining the reason behind VDM's arrest, he stated that it was due to numerous allegations raised against the activist by some petitioners.
He made this known while speaking to BBC News Pidgin on Monday.
“We will release him if he meets his bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible.”
"We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners. "
