Grammys Award: Nigerian Acts Lose All Nominations
The 66th Grammys award took place in Los Angeles, Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The Grammy award which is the most prestigious award in the music industry cements the position of artistes who win it on the global stage.
However, Nigerian Acts in Davido, Burna Boy, Asake and Ayra Starr all lost the categories they were nominated in.
Burna Boy who had won the category of Best Global Music Album in 2021 for ‘Twice As Tall’ was poised to win another Grammy at the 66th Grammys award. The African giant was nominated in 4 categories of: Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Performance, Best Global Album Performance and Best Global Melodic Rap Performance. Sadly, Burna Boy lost all the categories he was nominated in.
Nigerian singer, Davido who bagged his first ever Grammy nomination at the 66th Grammys Award was nominated in 3 different categories of; Best African Music Performance, Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Album Performance. The superstar however, did not win any of the award he was nominated in.
Nigeria singer, Ayra Starr who also bagged her first ever Grammy nomination got nominated in just one category of; Best African Music Performance. The Nigerian singer however, lost the award to her African counterpart in Tyla who is from South Africa.
Nigeria singer, Asake who also bagged his first Grammy nomination for the category of; Best African Music Performance also lost out on the award to South African singer, Tyla.
