D` BANJ RELOCATES TO VICTORIA ISLAND
After achieving a lot in year 2006 during which he preached his ‘Koko’ gospel to the ends of the earth, Dapo Oyebanjo, better known to millions of fans across Nigeria and the African coast as D’banj, the other half of the Mo’ Hits Records duo of D’banj & Don Jazzy, has decided to upgrade his lifeclass. Having first acquired a fully-automated BMW sedan, his next move is to move from his Lateef Jakande Starlight Estate abode for accommodation that better fits his new-found status as one of Nigeria’s best artiste. The Kokomaster is set to move into a new set of apartments in a yet-undisclosed highbrow estate located in Victoria Island. Last year was an especially good one for the Zaria-born musician as he was able to fully establish himself in the music terrain in which he plies his trade. So well did the year go that, by the tail end of last year, D’banj had sealed an endorsement deal with Nutricima, made some money from PDP- the ruling party in Nigeria for the use of his trademark ‘What is the koko?’ for their campaign advertisement as well as being on the bill of every major concert in Nigeria. His latest single ‘Why Me?’ is still getting as much airplay as it was getting when it was released about five months ago. And the video to the said song is still one of the most played on MTV base. As a result of his many successes, D’banj had contemplated buying property on the Island so as to keep a closer watch on his many business concerns in that part of Lagos. According to unconfirmed reports, the only reason why he has stayed his hand momentarily is because he wants to be certain moving will not alienate him from his numerous fans who throng his former living quarters. However, new neighbors such as former England international John Fashanu have already begun to clamor for his swift location to the estate. Interestingly, D’banj and his more reserved partner, Don Jazzy only moved permanently from the United Kingdom to Nigeria barely twelve months ago. Before they set up shop in Nigeria, both talented artistes had worked out of London under the tutelage of JJC of JJC & 419 Squad now simply known as Mr. Skillz. The duo left Backbone Music in 2004 to set up Mo’ Hits Records. By Taiwo Obatusin
