The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has debunked in strong terms reports making the rounds that he nominated a dead man for appointment into one of the boards of parastatals in the State.
It would be recalled that, the Governor, had recently sent six names to the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) for screening and confirmation in the State Rural Development Agency (RDA).
It was gathered that during the screening when one of the nominees was called up, the chairman nominee of the RDA, Mr. Efe Afe drew the attention of the House to the effect that James Youmu had since died, even before the names were sent to the House.
Reacting to the report, Dr Uduaghan stated that the person he nominated was very much alive, noting that it was likely or possible that the nominee might be sharing the same name with a dead person somewhere.
The Governor, who gave the clarification during the weekend at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stakeholders meeting in Asaba, said “We did not submit a dead man's name to the House of Assembly for approval. There are cases where two persons bear the same name. Do you know that there is also another Emmanuel Uduaghan here in Delta State?” He asked.
According to him, his administration would not relent in creating job opportunities for Deltans, disclosing that the 'Delta Beyond Oil' initiative was designed to create the enabling environment for investment to thrive.
While noting that 30 persons per local government are currently benefiting from the Youth and Women Empowerment programme of his administration, the Governor said the number would be increased to 50 in the next few weeks.
